John Cena’s year-long retirement tour is almost over, with his final match set to take place in just eight days against the winner of The Last Time Is Now Tournament.

The GOAT’s farewell bout will headline Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C., and the show is expected to feature several major names as WWE prepares for one of the most emotional events of the year.

One name heavily rumored for months has been former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who played a major role in Cena’s rise. However, according to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, the chances of McMahon appearing at the 17-time World Champion’s final match are now “increasingly unlikely.”

He added that while this is the case for now, McMahon’s appearance at the event is still “not impossible.”

Cena’s final opponent will be decided on SmackDown in Austin, Texas, tonight as GUNTHER and LA Knight face off in the tournament final.

“I never wanted Vince McMahon to go because I love him” – John Cena

During his interview on The Bill Simmons Podcast, 17-time World Champion John Cena talked about Vince McMahon’s departure from WWE and what the former CEO taught him. Here’s what The G.O.A.T said:

“Of all the things he did and of all the things he taught me, one piece that was very important is that no one is irreplaceable. And that’s the truth.

Vince has so much knowledge. I think what’s happened is unfortunate, because you have this individual with so much depth of field who can still offer things, and we no longer can pull from that.

It’s unfortunate he isn’t in WWE anymore. But it doesn’t mean we don’t have able-bodied folks who can put on creative programming.

So yeah, I never wanted Vince to go because I love him and I know how much he loves the business. But he taught me we’re all going to go.”
