Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day, featuring Chris Jericho and SmackDown.
• Chris Jericho has been a key figure in AEW since its launch in 2019, becoming the promotion’s first World Champion.
In 2022, he secured the ROH World Championship as well, by defeating Claudio Castagnoli during Dynamite: Grand Slam at New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium. Throughout his AEW run, Jericho has faced many top talents while also supporting up-and-coming wrestlers.
This Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Jericho is set to compete in a Ladder War Match against Mark Briscoe for the ROH World Title, a rematch from WrestleDream where Briscoe successfully defended the championship.
According to WrestlePurists, Jericho’s current contract with AEW runs through 2025, with no injury time set to be added to the contract.

• Shinsuke Nakamura hasn’t appeared in a televised match since April 22, when he lost to Sheamus on RAW.
Since then, he’s only participated in dark matches and house shows, with his last appearance being at a Live Event in England on October 16, where he lost to LA Knight in a United States Championship match.
WWE reportedly had no creative plans for Nakamura, which kept him off TV. However, it’s been announced that he will face Ulka Sasaki in Pro Wrestling NOAH on January 1, 2025.
PWInsider reports that Nakamura is expected to appear on this Friday’s SmackDown in Brooklyn, New York. WWE will air a live episode that night, followed by the taping of next week’s SmackDown, which leads into Crown Jewel.
