WWE announced its second quarter financial results of 2023 this morning. The company shared several notes on WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon.
In one part of the statement, WWE confirmed that McMahon underwent a major spinal surgery last month and has been on medical leave since then. He is still the Executive Chairman of the company, but won’t be fulfilling his duties indefinitely.
Below is WWE’s statement:
“On July 21, 2023, Mr. McMahon went on medical leave after undergoing major spinal surgery. Mr. McMahon will remain on medical leave until further notice but will remain Executive Chairman of the Company.”
The company also shared several legal notes about the 2022 investigation by the Board of Directors into Vince, who was accused of sexually harassing employees and paying hush money to cover it up.
The company revealed that last month federal law enforcement agents executed a search warrant against McMahon.
“On July 17, 2023, federal law enforcement agents executed a search warrant and served a federal grand jury subpoena on Mr. McMahon. No charges have been brought in these investigations.”
Vince McMahon himself has now issued a statement on this:
“In 2022, WWE formed a special committee to review allegations of misconduct against me. That review was concluded in November 2022 following an extensive investigation.
Throughout this experience, I have always denied any intentional wrongdoing and continue to do so. I am confident that the government’s investigation will be resolved without any findings of wrongdoing.
I am focused on completing the recovery process from my recent spinal surgery and on closing our transaction with Endeavor, which will create one of the preeminent global sports and entertainment brands.”
WWE has also issued a statement:
“We believe this is a continuation of the investigation that commenced last summer.
WWE has cooperated throughout and fully understands and respects the government’s need for a complete process.”
