Vince McMahon Was Originally Scheduled To Be In A Title Match At WrestleMania 24

Vince McMahon WrestleMania 36 Two Day Event

At WrestleMania 24 in 2008, Finlay squared off against JBL in a hard-hitting match. However, the initial plan reportedly involved Finlay facing none other than Vince McMahon himself.

In a recent episode of the “Insight” podcast, Hornswoggle discussed his storyline with Vince McMahon, where he was revealed as McMahon’s “love-child.”

Hornswoggle shared:

“It was supposed to be Finlay and Vince at that WrestleMania. Not only that, but they were going to try to make it for a WWE title.

I thought, man, if it was against Vince, the JBL match was already enormous, with all the build-up. But imagine how much more intense it would have been if Vince had been the opponent. Yeah.”

However, the actual WrestleMania 24 match featured Finlay taking on JBL. Weeks earlier, JBL had disclosed that Hornswoggle was Finlay’s son, not McMahon’s son.

Despite the deviation from his initial vision, Hornswoggle expressed gratitude for being part of the JBL vs. Finlay showdown. He added:

“I am very grateful. The match was so much fun. And JBL is just the man. He’s absolutely incredible. He treated me well throughout. There’s a moment with a trash can in the match that wasn’t planned.

Literally, at the last second, I saved myself by instinctively moving away. JBL improvised by whipping the trash can. It wasn’t discussed beforehand, but it became a highlight of the match.”

Ultimately, JBL emerged victorious in the ‘Belfast Brawl’ at WrestleMania 24. The following month, he entered the WWE Championship picture at Backlash 2008.
