On this day in 1994, we lost Old School NWA Veteran Ray Candy (aka Kareem Muhammad) at the age of 42 due to a heart attack.

Ray Candy wrestled for several NWA Territories during the 70s and 80s, such as Jim Crockett Promotions, Georgia Championship Wrestling (GCW), All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) and Championship Wrestling from Florida (CWF).

In 1983 & 1984, Ray wrestled as Kareem Muhammad and teamed up with Elijah Akeem as The Zambuie Express.

By 1988, he became known as Commando Ray, one half of yet another Super Heavyweight Tag Team, The Commandos.

The Commandos had a very similar military based gimmick as Ray’s former Tag Team, The Zambuie Express.

• WCW Veteran Confirms That Roman Reigns Has Heat For Missing WrestleMania 36

There have been different stories about WWE being mad at Roman Reigns for pulling out of WrestleMania 36.

Old School WCW Veteran Konnan talked about this on the “Keepin It 100” podcast and revealed that there’s still heat on The Big Dog.

Below is what Konnan said:

“I know for a fact because I was told this by people in the dressing room, that he does have heat for missing WrestleMania which to me it’s ridiculous.

At the end of the day, you pushed this guy down people’s throats. People didn’t get behind him until he had leukemia.

Now that he’s over and he’s a babyface and people stopped booing him, now you want to bury him when you don’t have that many guys that are over? That’s why it’s hard to watch that product.”
