RAW Superstar Chad Gable underwent a significant character change when he turned heel in April, entering a feud with Sami Zayn. Despite his efforts, he couldn’t clinch the Intercontinental Championship from Zayn. Gable has expressed that he’s “almost happy” he didn’t win.
At Clash At The Castle, Gable was determined to beat Zayn for the Intercontinental Title, but fell short. In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Gable shared his disappointment about not having secured a championship during his previous runs. He wants fans to see him as a winner and not just someone who’s good but can’t secure the big victories. He believes that not winning yet could make his first title even more significant. Gable credits his time with Gunther for elevating his career, stating their collaboration had a substantial impact.
Reflecting on his recent rivalry with Zayn, Gable feels they achieved a lot in a short time. This experience helped establish him as a formidable singles competitor, with the championship being the last piece missing. He believes the previous close calls were beneficial as the work during that time was meaningful. Now, he feels prepared and sees the championship as an achievable goal.
Here’s what the leader of American Made said:
“I feel like I also am disappointed in the fact that I didn’t grab one during that whole run because I don’t want to give the fans the impression that, ‘Well, he’s great, but he’s also just the guy that can’t win the big one.’
I know I am and I know I can, but what this is doing is, I think, for me, building that first one to mean almost as much as maybe it’s ever meant for anybody.
You know, I’ve come so close so many times. The Gunther stuff — what it did for my career, what Gunther did for my career — can’t be overstated. I have him to thank for so much, the way he elevated me. And then moving on to the stuff with Sami, from a storytelling perspective alongside the in-ring perspective, we got so much accomplished in such a short amount of time.
I feel like for both of us, it left just the right amount on the table for me as a singles guy to be like, ‘He did so much there, he got so much done, but he didn’t win the championship, so we’ve got one piece of the puzzle left to fill in.’
I’m almost happy it didn’t happen then because of what we got done there. It didn’t need it; I didn’t need it. But now I do, and so now it’s still on the table for me.”
