• Why Donald Trump Didn’t Attend John Cena’s Final Match
Despite rumors and the event being held in the nation’s capital, U.S. President and WWE Hall of Famer Donald Trump did not attend John Cena’s final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington, D.C. Even though he was absent, a number of important figures from his administration were present at the show.
According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE had hoped for the President to attend the historic event. He was even available that Saturday, having been at the Army vs. Navy football game earlier in the day. However, the report states that the President chose not to come to the Capital One Arena.
WWE’s relationship with the President remains solid, as Chief Content Officer Triple H recently attended the White House when the President signed an executive order. The President will be seen at a TKO event next year, when the UFC White House event takes place on June 14, 2026.
• WWE Star Teases Retirement After John Cena’s Final Match
R-Truth appeared alongside The Miz at Saturday Night’s Main Event before John Cena’s final match. He dressed up like The GOAT and served as the referee for the unofficial match between The Miz and Joe Hendry.
Speaking on the Saturday Night’s Main Event Recap, R-Truth opened up about his future in professional wrestling and acknowledged that his current WWE run could be his last.
“I always like to say, I steal this from The Rock, I let pain in my body be my guide as far as when it’s time for me to go. Right now, I still feel good. I’ve thought about it. As you know, I just renewed my deal, so it’s like… this could be the last one. We all have to have that time. We all have to get off the ride at some point.”
The former United States Champion was briefly released by WWE earlier this year. Just days later, the company brought him back and signed him to a special new contract in the summer. Unlike a standard full-time deal, the agreement was framed internally as giving R-Truth one genuine final run, allowing him to properly close out his career on his own terms.

The shocking finish left the entire arena and fans around the world stunned, as the man who had always preached “never give up” finally did just that.
The booking decision led to an extremely negative reaction for WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H from fans in the arena.
The internet is divided, with some arguing that Cena should have passed out instead of tapping, while others felt that GUNTHER forcing The GOAT to submit elevated The Ring General to a whole new level.
On Instagram, GUNTHER posted the following after retiring yet another legend in 2025:
“Pro Wrestling > Sports Entertainment”
GUNTHER’s wife, former WWE NXT UK wrestler Jinny, tweeted the following about her husband’s huge victory:

• “People were crying like somebody passed away” – WWE Hall Of Famer On Backstage Atmosphere After John Cena’s Retirement
John Cena’s legendary WWE career came to an emotional end at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The sight of The GOAT submitting to GUNTHER sent shockwaves through the pro wrestling world and marked the close of an unforgettable era.
Emotions were running extremely high backstage following the match. On Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry revealed that a large group of people were waiting to share a moment with Cena after his final bout, describing the atmosphere as deeply emotional.
“I walked through the back and there was a line of about 30 or 40 people waiting to get to John to hug him and console him. We gave the salute and I kept going.”
Henry went on to compare the mood backstage to a moment of real loss.
“The last time I’ve seen people crying and emotional like that was when somebody passed away. John is still alive and well. He’s going to Hollywood. He’s going to make some incredible films. You’re going to keep seeing him on commercials and ads. He’s not going away, he’s just going away from the ring.”
