Below are some top WWE news stories of the day, involving Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.

• Seth Rollins was originally slated to appear in Captain America: Brave New World, but when the final version of the film was completed, his role had been cut. Director Julius Onah has now shed light on the decision, explaining that adjustments to the Serpent Society’s role played a key factor in the change.

In an interview with ComicBook, Onah clarified that Rollins’ exclusion wasn’t about his performance but rather about ensuring the film’s tone felt right.

“When adapting characters like the Serpent Society—who are essentially individuals dressed as snakes with snake-like abilities—you constantly refine their portrayal to fit the overall vision of the movie.”

As the production progressed, so did its casting choices. Onah revealed that when Giancarlo Esposito became available, it was an obvious choice to bring him into the MCU.

“I think Seth is fantastic, but as we went through the planned reshoots early in the process, we asked ourselves, ‘Who can bring the kind of presence that best suits this film’s tone?’”

Esposito, widely recognized for his commanding roles in Breaking Bad (as Gus Fring) and The Mandalorian (as Moff Gideon), turned out to be the perfect fit.

“When Giancarlo became available, it was an easy decision. I’ve had a connection with him for years—he’s an icon, especially for his work with Spike Lee, and I interned for Spike when I was 19. Fans have wanted to see him in the MCU for a long time, and as we refined our vision for the film, he just made perfect sense. It was an incredible opportunity to have him join the project.”

• On the post-Royal Rumble edition of RAW, Michael Cole received a text message from the WWE Doctor saying that he doesn’t have sufficient information on Roman Reigns’ injury from the Royal Rumble because The Tribal Chief only lets out the information that he wants out.

Cole said all he knows is that Roman will be out of action for the foreseeable future due to Seth Rollins’ attack.

The obvious reason for this injury angle was to plant seeds for the reported Triple Threat Match between him, Rollins, and CM Punk at WrestleMania 41, but there’s another reason.

According to the Wrestling Observer, the injury angle was done to have a reason for keeping Roman out of the #1 contender Elimination Chamber match, which he isn’t scheduled to win and would have to get pinned or submitted in order to get eliminated from the match, which WWE doesn’t want.
