Why Vince McMahon Was Against Doing International PPVs

Vince McMahon WWE Backlash 2020

Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, involving Vince McMahon and Damian Priest.

• On his podcast, Jim Cornette discussed WWE’s recent success with international premium live events (fka pay-per-views). Cornette explained why Vince McMahon was hesitant to hold major shows overseas in the past.

Cornette highlighted that McMahon believed such events would negatively affect pay-per-view buys, which were a vital source of revenue for the company back in the day.

Here’s what Cornette said:

“One reason Vince didn’t want to do pay-per-views, the big show, whether premium live event or whatever anywhere outside of the continental United States is because of the time zone difference. It would affect the buys and the buys were where all the money came in.”

However, with PLEs streaming on Peacock / WWE Network, WWE doesn’t have to worry about that anymore.

• During an interview on The Rob Brown Show, World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest revealed that he almost became an MMA Fighter before signing with WWE.

Here’s what the leader of Judgment Day said:

“I love MMA! I’m a fan. I’ve always been. I was trained. There was a time before I signed with WWE that I didn’t think I was going to make it here, and I was in talks to do a smaller-scale event, but I was going to fight in a cage.

I was going to start training. I already talked to some trainers, and I was going to get the ball rolling, and then WWE called, and I was like, ‘Never mind!’”
