Omos is one of the tallest superstars in pro-wrestling history and is definitely a larger-than-life special attraction, but WWE hasn’t used him frequently as of late, and it’s reported that some within the company even wanted him fired.
The 7-foot-3 Nigerian Giant joined WWE in January 2019 and gained recognition in 2020 through his tag team partnership with AJ Styles, which led to a RAW Tag Team Championship victory at WrestleMania 37 in 2021.
After that, he won “The Rock 25th Anniversary Battle Royal” at Survivor Series 2021, but that’s about it. After his partnership with Styles ended, Omos started a singles run, which didn’t lead to much success.
His biggest accomplishment so far is getting the opportunity to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39, which could very well turn out to be Lesnar’s final WrestleMania match.
On the Lame Guys Podcast, Bobby Lashley shared that some WWE talent initially wanted Omos fired due to a few incidents where he unintentionally hurt other wrestlers in the ring. Lashley explained that this wasn’t surprising given Omos’s size and strength, noting that even he looks small next to him.
Lashley added that certain talent complained to WWE management to make Omos look bad, hoping it would lead to his release. However, Lashley believes he helped Omos improve, and eventually, people began to appreciate him more.
Here’s what The All Mighty said:
“I’m taking the credit for Omos, you know. Everybody else will too because he started turning things around after that. When he first came in, they were going to fire him because he had hurt a couple of people. But I mean, he’s a giant—he even makes me feel like a child.
When he first started, he was wrestling certain people, and some of them were upset, saying things like ‘Gosh dang it,’ yelling at him, and trying to make him look bad to the office. They were even trying to get him fired because he hit them too hard and stuff like that.”
At WrestleMania 38 in 2022, Lashley defeated Omos; at next month’s WrestleMania Backlash premium live event, Omos picked up a win over Lashley. At the Hell in a Cell PLE, Lashley went on to defeat both Omos and MVP in a Handicap Match.
