In a recent development, Cody Rhodes, the man who will main event both nights of WrestleMania 40, has confirmed that he has inked a new deal with WWE, extending his tenure beyond his 40th birthday.
The news first surfaced through Fightful, indicating that Rhodes had been offered a fresh contract by WWE, although he had not yet put pen to paper. Subsequently, the Wrestling Observer corroborated the information, stating that Rhodes finalized the deal in October 2023.
Speaking to Justin Walker of 8 News Now in Las Vegas, Rhodes officially confirmed the signing of his new WWE contract.
While he didn’t disclose the exact duration of the deal, he did mention that it extends beyond his 40th birthday. Given that Rhodes is currently 38 years old, it implies that he is committed to WWE for at least the next couple of years, if not more.
This marks a notable shift in Rhodes’ perspective, as he had previously expressed intentions of winding down his in-ring career upon reaching the age of 40. However, he has since revised his stance on the matter.
Rhodes emphasized that when he eventually decides to retire, he aims to ensure that the transition is seamless and not fraught with physical discomfort, citing the example of his father, Dusty Rhodes, who continued wrestling well into his later years.
Here’s what The American Nightmare said:
“I did sign a new contract with WWE. It extends beyond my 40th birthday.
The plan is still when it’s time to step out, to step out without it being a painful process. Solely because I saw my dad as an old man wrestler and he loved it and enjoyed it, but as his son it was hard to see.
My daughter is two going on three, there does have a be a time, just like he was with us, where I have to be home all the time and be there with her. It’s not 40 anymore. I’ll update the number. I hit them prime run late in the game. I often forget that I’m nearing 40.”
