WWE Canceled Major Angle For Kane At The Royal Rumble

In an interview with Sean Ross Sapp, former WWE wrestler Mace (of Maximum Male Models) revealed that “The Nigerian Giant” Omos was scheduled for a spot with WWF Legend Kane during the 2021 Men’s Royal Rumble match.

However, this plan was canceled due to Omos suffering a concussion while training with Mace, as they accidentally bumped heads during a Performance Center class.

Due to the injury, Omos was pulled from the Rumble match. He still appeared at the event as AJ Styles’ bodyguard.

Omos’ spot most likely went to Damian Priest, who had a face off with Kane and ended up eliminating The Big Red Machine. Kane was in the match for 1 minute and 51 seconds and eliminated 2 men: Dolph Ziggler and Ricochet.

This turned out to be Kane’s last match. After that appearance, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame during the WrestleMania 37 weekend.

During an interview with David Gornoskoski in February 2024, Kane was asked if he’ll ever wrestle again. Kane said he’s most likely retired from in-ring competition, but would be open to doing other things in WWE from time to time. Here’s what The Big Red Machine said:

“I am probably not getting in the ring. I watch it now and I’m amazed at how athletic everybody is. I don’t think my body can take that kind of punishment anymore, you know? We always say never say never. So I leave the door open to many different things.”

Kane’s last appearance on WWE programming was at SummerSlam 2022, where he announced the attendance.

Since Triple H took charge in 2022, Omos has had limited involvement in WWE, appearing in only two broadcast matches in 2024, both multi-person matches: the Royal Rumble in January and the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal in April.

There is no official word on when or if Omos will return to WWE TV. Reports from December indicated that his appearances were being kept minimal to maintain his appeal as a special attraction. He mostly works Live Events now.

Omos is making the most of his time away from the ring by launching a new YouTube channel. His channel is focused on fragrances, food, and fashion. In his first video, he references his WWE career, confirming he is still with the company despite his absence.

Omos’ manager, MVP, has also been absent from WWE programming. MVP recently addressed his issues with WWE leadership on Instagram, claiming that his pitches for a Hurt Business reunion were rejected and suggesting racial motives behind these decisions.

Omos has not had a televised singles match since losing to Seth Rollins at Backlash in May 2023.
