• Scott Steiner is known for being outspoken about the pro wrestling industry. He has noticed AEW’s approach of booking matches with minimal storyline development and believes that this method won’t be successful.
AEW focuses on delivering a wrestling product that emphasizes in-ring action, differing from WWE’s storytelling-heavy approach. Fans have their own preferences for what they want to see from a wrestling company.
In a recent interview with SK Wrestling, Steiner was asked if he watches AEW. He responded that while he does catch some of what Tony Khan’s company offers, he doesn’t have much time to follow it closely.
When asked for his positive thoughts on AEW, Steiner mentioned that it’s good for wrestlers to have more places to work.
Although he didn’t criticize AEW harshly like some others have, it doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a big fan of their product.
Here’s what Big Poppa Pump said:
“It’s great for another place for the guys to work. Competition’s always good for the business. But there’s no doubt that WWE is hot right now. They got the fan interest. That’s what’s most important.
The thing is, [AEW] just can’t have matches. Nobody gives a sh*t if they’re just matches with no storyline. You’re throwing two guys together. No, (it doesn’t work).”
