On this day in Pro Wrestling history on January 21, 1996, the World Wrestling Federation aired their annual ‘Royal Rumble’ event LIVE on PPV from the Selland Arena in Fresno, California.

This was the second out of 2 Royal Rumble wins for “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, as well as the first time that the WWF World Title match main evented the PPV instead of the 30-man Royal Rumble match.

– Free For All – for the #30 spot in the Royal Rumble: Duke Droese defeated Hunter Hearst Helmsley via DQ

– Ahmed Johnson defeated Jeff Jarrett via DQ

– WWF Tag Team Championship: The Smoking Gunns (c) defeated The Bodydonnas

– WWF Intercontinental Championship: Goldust defeated Razor Ramon (c)

– Shawn Michaels won the 30-man Royal Rumble match

– WWF World Heavyweight Championship: The Undertaker defeated Bret Hart (c) via DQ

• WWE Discussing Major WrestleMania 35 Match Plan With Batista

According to Slice Wrestling, WWE officials want Batista to return for a major match at WrestleMania 35 and they have begun discussions with “The Animal” regarding it.

WWE planted seeds for a Batista vs. Triple H match on the SmackDown 1000 episode last year. This match was scheduled to take place at WrestleMania 35, but Triple H suffered an injury at WWE Crown Jewel.

The status of this match now depends on Triple H getting cleared in-time for WrestleMania 35.

WWE recently posted a video on Batista’s 50th birthday, where they looked at Batista’s 6 World Title victories.
