The RAW Netflix premiere was a monumental occasion, marked by the highly-anticipated return of The Rock, who kicked off the show.
The Final Boss delivered an impromptu promo, reflecting on WWE’s evolution since his childhood and captivating the audience with his signature charisma. In true Rock style, he kept things uncensored, even throwing in a “bullsh*t” during his segment.
According to Billi Bhatti, The Rock’s segment was entirely unscripted:
“Rock said he would go out there and cut a promo and it would be something suitable to open up the show, and he would just go out there and ‘wing it’ and get the crowd into it. He gave no indication that he was going to go out there and thank Roman Reigns or Cody Rhodes.”
The Netflix executives requested his appearance, and The Rock was tasked with energizing the crowd and impressing the new platform’s representatives, which he achieved flawlessly.
However, Bhatti also revealed unexpected complications that arose during the show. The Rock went LIVE on Instagram backstage without clearing it with WWE, creating additional challenges for the production team:
“After The Rock did what he did in the ring, and once they knew they would be airing The Rock going back through the backstage area, there was actually no need at that point any further to edit the segments with Cody because he already f**ked up 12 months’ worth of storylines.”
The Rock’s return, while thrilling for fans, reportedly disrupted key storyline plans, leaving a significant impact on WWE’s creative direction.
