Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and John Cena.

• Kevin Owens defeated Sami Zayn in a brutal Unsanctioned Match at Elimination Chamber, featuring weapons like chairs, tables, and a barbed-wire-wrapped chair.

In the closing moments, Zayn hit a Blue Thunder Bomb onto chairs for a near-fall before Owens retaliated by slamming a chair-wrapped Zayn into the ring post twice and delivering two powerbombs on the apron for the win.

Fightful Select reports that WWE claimed the barbed wire used was not gimmicked, as requested by at least one talent.

After the match, Randy Orton made a surprise return, hitting Owens with an RKO and attempting a Punt Kick before security intervened.

• After winning the Men’s Elimination Chamber match and turning heel by attacking WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, John Cena went straight to Africa to continue filming his movie.

This morning, Cena issued his first statement since his heel turn. The 16-time World Champion continued posting his motivational quotes on X as if nothing happened. Here’s what he tweeted:

“Have the discipline to do what needs to be done, especially when you don’t feel like it.”

Cena’s shocking heel turn was a closely guarded secret. Despite reports suggesting The Rock and Cody Rhodes’ segment would be mid-show, WWE always planned for it to be the main event, listing it earlier to avoid leaks.

Fightful Select revealed that Cena’s heel turn was kept under wraps, with only The Rock, Brian Gewirtz, and Triple H aware. Most in WWE were blindsided.

Additionally, Cena’s Elimination Chamber promotional poster featuring The Rock and Travis Scott was reportedly intentional foreshadowing. While The Rock’s WrestleMania 41 role isn’t confirmed, WWE expects his involvement.
