Gunther (fka WALTER) is now the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, after he recently broke The Honky Tonk Man’s record.

Like already teased in this year’s annual 30-man Royal Rumble match, WWE might book a match between Gunther and ‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar in the not so distant future, possibly even to main event the first night of WrestleMania 40 in 2024.

On an edition of ‘Busted Open Radio’, WWE Hall of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley (aka Bully Ray) talked about opponents that Gunther would benefit from facing in the ring.

Here’s what Bubba said:

“What I am looking forward to is the days when Gunther has the opportunity to be in the ring with guys that are better than him. If the day ever comes that we get Brock Lesnar and Gunther, Gunther, get under that learning tree, and soak it all in, brother.

A Randy Orton and a Gunther, wow. An Edge and Gunther. Gunther, much like a Charlotte Flair, doesn’t have anybody that is going to bring him to the next level. Gunther and Seth Rollins, yes, that’ll do it. Seth is excellent at what he does.”

WALTER joined WWE NXT UK in 2019 and ended up holding the NXT United Kingdom Championship for 870 days, thus making him by far the longest title holder in the (now defunct) championship’s legacy.

In January 2022, he was renamed Gunther and eventually debuted on the WWE main roster (SmackDown) in April, before winning the Intercontinental Championship in June 2022.
