Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day, featuring Ric Flair and CM Punk.

• 2-Time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair has expressed dissatisfaction with ESPN’s list of the top 100 athletes since the year 2000. The list, created by “ESPN experts,” includes athletes from various sports and often sparks controversy over its selections and rankings.

Pat McAfee also criticized the list’s existence, highlighting the common disagreements it incites.

Flair, who made his debut in 1972 and had his final match in 2022, was particularly upset because he was not included in the list.

Here’s what The Nature Boy tweeted:

“How In The Hell On God’s Green Earth Is Ric Flair Not Considered To Be One Of The Top 100 Athletes In The World??? I Should Actually Be In The Top 10.

16 World Titles, Actually 22. 1,200 Hour Matches, 15 Years Without A Day Off; A Cultural Icon & Worldwide Sensation. Good Lord, So Many People Have Lost Sight Of What Greatness Truly Is!

I Never Pulled Out With A Calf Muscle Strain. Oh How The Times Have Changed! What A Bunch Of B*tches! I Get Tom Brady And All That, But Come On Let’s Get Serious!”

• Fans might soon see CM Punk back wrestling in a WWE ring, as his return is looking increasingly likely. Punk suffered a torn triceps during the 2024 Men’s Royal Rumble Match, which Cody Rhodes won by eliminating him.

Since then, he has been in a feud with Drew McIntyre, screwing McIntyre in World Heavyweight Championship matches on three occasions. WWE has been hinting at a match between Punk and McIntyre for SummerSlam, but it hasn’t been confirmed because Punk has not yet been medically cleared.

PWInsider reported that Punk was in Orlando, Florida at the WWE Performance Center on Wednesday, training to get cleared for SummerSlam. The Wrestling Observer confirmed this report, stating:

“And the McIntyre (suspension) thing is an angle. However, Punk is working on getting cleared. That might even have taken place [on Wednesday] because he was in Orlando. But he was not cleared as of Monday. But he was expected to be cleared. They were going with the idea he would be cleared. So Punk and McIntyre is likely the match.”

Punk is advertised to appear on next week’s RAW, which could be when WWE officially announces the Punk vs. McIntyre match for SummerSlam 2024 on August 3rd.
