WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam suspects that Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul might be a work rather than a legitimate fight.
The Boxing Match is set for tonight, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the highly anticipated bout has generated significant buzz. Tensions flared during the weigh-in when Tyson slapped Paul after Paul stepped on his foot, further fueling interest in the clash between the legendary boxer and the YouTuber-turned-boxer. Fans are eager to see how this match unfolds.
Speaking on his 1 of a Kind podcast, RVD shared his belief that the fight is more likely staged entertainment than a real contest. Initially, he considered the match a genuine shoot when it was first announced months ago. However, as others speculated it might be a work, his perspective began to shift. Recent promotional clips have solidified his opinion.
RVD highlighted moments like Tyson and Paul repeatedly getting face-to-face in an almost playful manner, even appearing to joke around during stare-downs.
Here’s what the former WWE Champion said:
“I really don’t see it being a shoot. I can’t imagine it any other way now, though at first, I did. Initially, I looked at it as a shoot, especially months ago when they started promoting it. Back then, I thought it might be legit. But then people were like, ‘Come on, dude, you know it’s going to be a work.’
They didn’t completely convince me at first, but I guess they got me somewhat conflicted about my opinion. Now, after seeing some of the promos, my perspective has shifted.
I need to watch more of them, but I’ve seen clips, like when Mike Tyson and Jake Paul get face-to-face and almost kiss. They’ve done that three or four times now. It’s like a recurring bit, and it makes me think they’re just having fun, that they’re really just friends.
That’s why I’ve changed my view. I don’t see this as a fight that’s going to be a true test of skill. I think they’ll do something interesting, but I don’t expect it to be a shoot.”
