On this day in Pro Wrestling history on December 17, 2000, Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling aired their annual ‘Starrcade’ event LIVE on PPV from the MCI Center in Washington, DC.
This was the last Starrcade before Vince McMahon bought the company 3 months later, so there were only 3 more WCW PPVs after this one, before the company was sold.

– United States Heavyweight Championship: Gen. Rection (c) defeated Shane Douglas by DQ
– Bunkhouse Brawl: The Harris Brothers & Jeff Jarrett defeated The Filthy Animals
– World Tag Team Championship: The Insiders defeated The Perfect Event (c)
– No Holds Barred: Goldberg defeated Lex Luger
– WCW World Heavyweight Championship: Scott Steiner (c) defeated Sid Vicious
• WWE Has Big Plans For Samoa Joe (Spoiler)
As we noted earlier, WWE taped next week’s episode of RAW after this week’s RAW went off the air.
On next week’s episode of RAW, AOP attacked Samoa Joe after the main event match between Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins got over (tap here for complete results).
According to the Wrestling Observer, this will be Joe’s babyface turn and he’s going to feud with Rollins when he gets cleared to return to in-ring action (he’s out of action with a thumb injury).
With Joe entering the main event scene with Rollins soon, this could be the start of good things for Joe as he could get selected as the babyface wrestler who eventually goes on to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 36 (if WWE doesn’t go with Tyson Fury as Brock’s opponent that is).
