Below are a couple of top WWE & AEW news stories of the day.
• WWE has a history of collaborating with various wrestling promotions, including ECW, OVW, NJPW, UK companies, and most recently, All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW).
AJPW recently shared a video featuring its president, Tsuyoki Fukud, receiving a call from a WWE representative expressing interest in booking a mystery NXT star to challenge for the Triple Crown title at the New Year Giant Series 2024 event on January 3. The mystery NXT star for this challenge is Charlie Dempsey, who is William Regal’s son.
This move follows WWE’s previous collaboration with Pro Wrestling Noah, where they sent Shinsuke Nakamura to work a match with The Great Muta as part of Muta’s retirement tour.
According to the Wrestling Observer, WWE has expressed interest in working with Stardom, another prominent Japanese promotion. While nothing is finalized, WWE’s confirmed interest suggests a potential future collaboration with Stardom.
It’s worth noting that both Stardom and NJPW are owned by their parent company, Bushi Road. This development adds an intriguing layer to WWE’s ongoing efforts to foster relationships with various wrestling organizations around the world.
• Former AEW Women’s World Champion Britt Baker, a prominent figure in All Elite Wrestling since its launch in 2019, has been notably absent from the top-star role on television in 2023.
The Wrestling Observer reports that the reason for Baker’s absence is an injury situation.
AEW President Tony Khan also mentioned Baker, along with other key talent like Pac, Kenny Omega, Adam Cole, and Jamie Hayter, as individuals currently sidelined with injuries during a Worlds End media call on Thursday.
