Below are some top WWE & IMPACT Wrestling news stories of the day:
• WWE released over 20 wrestlers last week. The company had been planning to make cuts in several departments following its sale to Endeavor.
A week before releasing talents, WWE made cuts to let go over 100 office employees as well.
Most of the talents that were released were inactive talents who weren’t being used on television, but the list also included some surprising names like Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali, Matt Riddle and Shelton Benjamin.
It’s likely that many promotions will be interested in signing those talents once they become free agents.
While speaking on the Laprade on Les Anti-Pods de la Lutte podcast, IMPACT Wrestling’s PCO revealed which talents IMPACT is interested in signing.
Below is what he said:
“Of course it did. Already there were names mentioned by people close to the office. The names that were circulating were (Matt) Riddle, (Dolph) Ziggler and Mustafa Ali. These are the three names that supposedly Impact would try to sign.”
Most of the released talents will become free agents in 3 months once the non-compete clause in their contracts expire.
• The Wrestling Observer reports that Mustafa Ali wasn’t in the original list of talents WWE planned to release. The decision to let him go was made late.
• Gunther will defend the Intercontinental Championship against Tommaso Ciampa at the Fastlane premium live event. They will have a contract signing to make this match official on Monday’s RAW.
WWE has officially announced the following matches for Fastlane so far:
– John Cena & LA Knight vs. The Bloodline (Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa)
– Last Man Standing Match For The World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
– Triple Threat Match For The WWE Women’s Championship: IYO SKY (c) vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Asuka
