Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day.

• WWE is reportedly aiming for AJ Styles to make his return at Royal Rumble 2025 this Saturday. Styles has been off television since suffering a Lisfranc injury, a serious condition involving the bones and ligaments in the midfoot, which he revealed had him feeling “cooked”.

The injury followed his return to SmackDown, where he faced Carmelo Hayes, but WWE later announced he had a mid-foot ligament sprain. Styles was initially expected to have a farewell storyline before being sidelined.

Despite the lack of official updates, PWInsider now reports that WWE hopes Styles will be cleared in time for the 30-man Royal Rumble match.

Styles is expected to be in town for the event, raising speculation about his potential involvement.

• WWE is currently dealing with a wave of injuries, with multiple stars sidelined. Dakota Kai is out with a concussion, while JD McDonagh suffered broken ribs and a punctured lung during his match on RAW last night.

According to the Wrestling Observer, Apollo Crews also sustained an injury during his match against WWE Tag Team Champion Johnny Gargano on last Friday’s SmackDown. Crews appeared hurt after taking a backcracker, possibly affecting his shoulder or pectoral muscle.

This marks the third significant injury in a week, creating further challenges right before the Royal Rumble.

As we noted before, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley almost got hurt during her match against Nia Jax on Saturday Night’s Main Event, where “the wind got knocked out of her”, according to Fightful Select.
