Below are a couple of top WWE news stories of the day.

• According to PWInsider, all commentary teams in WWE will now consist of two men. SmackDown had a 3-man commentary team, which will no longer be the case.

Michael Cole will no longer work both shows, as his tenure on SmackDown is over.

On tonight’s “Day 1” edition of RAW, Cole and Wade Barrett will be the commentators, while Kevin Patrick and Corey Graves will take over for this Friday’s “New Year’s Resolution” episode of SmackDown.

• Several former WWE stars, released in September after their non-compete clauses expired, are now free agents. Among them is Elias, who recently exited WWE after working with the company from 2014 to 2023.

Elias, initially known as Elias Samson in NXT, portrayed a musician gimmick. He transitioned to the main roster in 2017 as Elias, releasing his own album, “WWE: Walk with Elias”.

After a hiatus in late 2021, he returned in April as Elias’ younger brother, Ezekiel, with a changed appearance.

In a recent video promo, Elias declared his own death and introduced a new persona named Elijah, symbolized by setting a grave on fire with a tombstone dating back to the years of his original gimmick.

Elias’ future plans in the wrestling world remain uncertain.
