WWE originally planned for the final Saturday Night’s Main Event of 2025 to be a full tribute show for John Cena. However, Cena pushed back on the idea, requesting that the company use the platform to highlight younger talent instead. He specifically asked for several NXT names to be featured on the card.

One of the most exciting matchups announced is the clash between World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles & Dragon Lee and the team of Je’Von Evans & TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater.

When WWE announced the match earlier this week, it was advertised as a non-title bout. However, the company’s official website now lists it as a match for the World Tag Team Championship.

Below is the match description from WWE’s website:

“At Saturday Night’s Main Event, World Tag Team Champions AJ Styles and Dragon Lee will put their title on the line against two of the hottest prospects in NXT, the explosive Je’Von Evans and TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater.

Who will leave as champions? Find out at Saturday Night’s Main Event on Dec. 13 at 8 ET/5 PT on Peacock in the United States and YouTube internationally.”

This means Evans and Slater not only get a major spotlight, but also a real shot at winning their first titles in WWE. For Slater especially, it’s a huge moment, as AJ Styles is his dream opponent.

John Cena Won’t Headline Saturday Night’s Main Event

In just three days, John Cena will step inside the ring for the final time to battle GUNTHER in his retirement match at Saturday Night’s Main Event at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

It was expected that Cena vs. GUNTHER will close the show. However, that will not be the case.

According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, there isn’t a locked-in runtime for Saturday Night’s Main Event, so talent on the card will have as much time as they need.

Cena vs. GUNTHER is slated to kick off the show, and The GOAT is expected to receive as much time as he wants for his final appearance.

Below is the card for Saturday Night’s Main Event so far:

– John Cena vs. GUNTHER

– Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes vs. NXT Champion Oba Femi

– Bayley vs. Sol Ruca (with Zaria)

– AJ Styles & Dragon Lee (c) vs. Je’Von Evans & TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater for the World Tag Team Championship

– WWE Hall of Famer Jesse Ventura will appear
