• Nick Khan Wanted To Bring ESPN Personality To WWE As Manager
WrestleMania 42 week is officially underway, and it will be the first Show of Shows to air on ESPN in the United States since WWE’s deal with the platform began last year.
During a discussion on ESPN First Take this morning, SmackDown commentator Joe Tessitore ran through the WrestleMania 42 card and touched on Pat McAfee’s recent return, including his unexpected pairing with Randy Orton. The segment then shifted to Stephen A. Smith, who expressed his support for McAfee and revealed that WWE President Nick Khan had previously approached him about taking on a manager role.
“I love it. I love it, and I want to applaud Pat McAfee for that, because let me tell you something. They were talking to…I go back to the old days of Bobby ‘The Brain’ Heenan and people like that. I actually wanted to do that. Your man Nick Khan talked to me about that.
See, the difference is, I’m not as courageous as Pat McAfee. I ain’t trying to get hit by one of them big boys, at all! I want no part of it, but I love that stuff because I think the sport needs it.”
Tessitore added that he could see Smith managing someone like GUNTHER, but Smith responded by saying he would prefer to align himself with Roman Reigns instead.
