During this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, Joe Tessitore revealed that Ilja Dragunov sustained an ACL tear while competing against World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER at a recent house show.

As a result, Dragunov is expected to be sidelined for 6 to 9 months.

“We do have some unfortunate news to pass along. Ilja Dragunov was injured during a match with GUNTHER this past weekend. It is suspected that he has a torn ACL.

The prognosis of our medical team is that Dragunov will be out of action for approximately 6-to-9 months. We wish him a speedy recovery on his return to the ring.”

This is a tough break for Dragunov, who had recently been called up from NXT and was still working to make his mark on the main roster.

While he delivered some standout performances and was having strong matches with the world heavyweight champion at live events, it hadn’t yet transitioned into a major storyline on TV.

Hopefully, he’ll make a speedy recovery and return sooner than anticipated.
