John Cena won the 2025 Elimination Chamber Match and went on to defeat Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the main event of WrestleMania 41 – Night 2. He dropped the title to The American Nightmare at the first-ever two-night SummerSlam in August.
On Fightful Select Q/A, Sean Ross Sapp mentioned that there were internal discussions within WWE about having John Cena capture the World Championship one more time before his upcoming retirement. However, it’s unclear how far those talks progressed before the idea was ultimately dropped.
These discussions came after Seth Rollins was forced to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship due to a shoulder injury he suffered at Crown Jewel. After The Visionary was sidelined, CM Punk ended up winning the belt last weekend.
John Cena is set to return next Monday night on RAW. It is rumored that he will start a feud with AAA Mega and Intercontinental Champion “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio to plant seeds for an Intercontinental Title match at Survivor Series: WarGames later this month.
The 17-time World Champion could dethrone Dirty Dom to become a Grand Slam Champion ahead of his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.

John “Bradshaw” Layfield believes the world is only a short time away from hearing Vince McMahon’s uncensored version of events, and he thinks it’s going to shock people.
During a recent episode of Something to Wrestle, the former WWE Champion said he’s almost certain that McMahon is preparing to release a brutally honest tell-all book. According to JBL, it’s not a matter of if, but when.
He estimated that fans could see the autobiography surface within the next one or two years, describing it as “raw” and “unfiltered.” Layfield suggested McMahon intends to cover everything – triumphs, controversies, and personal demons alike – without hiding behind PR-friendly storytelling.
JBL revealed that McMahon has long been disappointed with the way wrestling figures have sanitized their stories for publication. He recalled an incident from two decades ago when McMahon was angry that Hulk Hogan released what he called a “home version” of his life story in 2002 – one that glossed over affairs, drug use, and wild behind-the-scenes behavior.
He said McMahon felt the sanitized narrative robbed fans of the truth, especially considering how outrageous Hogan’s real life had been during his prime. According to JBL, Vince wanted Hogan to “tell it all,” because reality was far more compelling than fiction.
That frustration, Layfield believes, is part of why McMahon now feels compelled to set the record straight himself.
JBL predicted McMahon’s book will go far beyond what fans expect from a typical wrestling memoir. “People wouldn’t believe the real story if they heard it,” he said, noting McMahon’s notorious work ethic – staying up drinking until 3 AM, hitting the gym hours later, and running his company without pause.
He also said McMahon’s life has been so extreme that even rock stars would envy it, hinting that the forthcoming project could be one of the most unbelievable accounts in wrestling history.
Layfield made it clear that McMahon has never truly told his side of decades of scandal and criticism. From corporate controversies to creative clashes, the former WWE boss has allowed others to define his story – something JBL believes will change soon.
He described McMahon as a man who refuses to fade away, recounting a private moment from WrestleMania 39 in 2023 after WWE’s merger with TKO. JBL found McMahon backstage and told him he was proud that he hadn’t “gone quietly into the night.” McMahon’s response – “You f**king knew I wouldn’t do that” – convinced JBL that his old boss still has more to say, and that the world will hear it.
According to JBL, McMahon’s next move – possibly involving both a book and a multimedia project – could redefine how fans view him. Some will never forgive him, he admitted, but others might realize they never fully understood the man behind WWE’s empire.
