Old School WCW Veteran Tank Abbott (Real name: David Lee Abbott) celebrates his 55th birthday today.

Being an MMA Fighter, he also used to be one of the earliest big names in UFC history, before joining Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling in 1999.

After he was released in 2000, Abbott returned to the sport of Mixed Martial Arts, including a lot less successful UFC comeback.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TANK ABBOTT!

• WWE Removed LGBTQ References From NXT Wrestler’s Character

Jake Atlas is a pretty talented wrestler, and he’s doing pretty good on NXT. He is gay, and he doesn’t hide the fact. Instead, he uses his position to represent his people.

He used to call his finisher the LGB-DDT, which is now called the Cartwheel DDT. He also wore rainbow tights to the ring previously, but that too was changed when he came to NXT.

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed how WWE altered Atlas’ character so that his $exuality doesn’t become too obvious:

“In his promo he, if you know that you know that he’s saying [he’s gay], if you don’t know this — and you’ve got to figure that 95% of the audience or more of the audience doesn’t — they’re gonna have no idea what he’s talking about.

He’s talking about you know, he’s gonna win it for the people and break new barriers and this and that, it’s like, ‘what is he talking about?’

So I mean the thing is then the rainbow tights are gone. They don’t want him to be gay. His winning move is the LGB-DDT and now it’s a Cartwheel DDT. So they don’t want him to be gay, but he wants to be gay, but he’s not allowed to say he is and it makes for a really weird like…you’re gonna do it, or you’re not and it’s like he’s doing it even though he’s not supposed to.

The announcers aren’t even hinting at anything. It was a very awkward presentation aside from the match itself.”

Atlas defeated Drake Maverick in the first round of the Interim NXT Cruiserweight Championship tournament this past Wednesday.
