• Old School Wrestling Legend Would Have Celebrated His Birthday
Today would have been the 80th birthday of Old School Wrestling Legend Billy Robinson.
The british ‘catch wrestling’ specialist had a great career in the United States, Canada, Europe & Japan.
In 1982, he wrestled WWWF World Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund to a 60-minutes time limit draw.
Billy Robinson has been inducted into several smaller Pro Wrestling Halls of Fame, but has yet to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, which is most likely going to happen as part of the annual ‘Legacy Wing’ inductions.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY & REST IN PEACE!
• WWE Was Planning A Huge Return For SummerSlam 2018, Heat On WWF Legend
According to the Fired Up podcast, WWE wanted to have Hulk Hogan return to WWE at last month’s SummerSlam 2018 PPV, but they had to cancel those plans when Hogan’s reinstatement into the WWE Hall of Fame got a mixed reaction among WWE wrestlers backstage.
Hogan then planned an nWo reunion and reports came out that he has heat with Vince McMahon because of this.
However, Hogan denied those reports during a recent interview with Sports Illustrated. Below is what the Hulkster said:
“First off, this whole nWo thing has Vince McMahon’s blessing. I’ve heard people say otherwise, but I have a great rapport with Vince, we talked about this, and we’re acting under his blessing. The response is incredible, much greater than we expected, especially from people in the U.K. We had over 100,000 responses to the announcement.
The fans are just so loyal. We’re all human, we all make mistakes, and I’ve made crazy, boneheaded mistakes. I’m not perfect, but I am trying to make a positive impact every day. People have stood by me and stuck with me. I’ll never forget that. They know me, they know who I am, and they know how much I love this business—this business is my life. I’ve got nothing but love in my heart for the fans, I’m forever grateful.”
The Fired Up podcast is reporting that while Hogan did get permission from Vince to do the nWo reunion, there is still said to be a little heat on Hogan as WWE wanted to use Hogan, but he went into business for himself (which is not a negative thing at all).
While the plan to use him at SummerSlam 2018 got nixed, WWE just wanted a little more time before they could eventually use him.
Who knows, maybe Hogan could return at the WWE Crown Jewel PPV in Saudi Arabia on November 2 as the Saudi Arabia Prince is a big fan of Old School Wrestlers and he also demanded and offered big money to get Hogan to work the Greatest Royal Rumble show earlier this year, but it wasn’t possible at that point.
