We are saddened to report that WWF & WCW Veteran Virgil has passed away at the age of 61.

Referee Mark Charles III confirmed this sad news by posting the following on Facebook:

“My dear friends, it is with great sorrow that I bring news from the Jones family of the passing of our beloved Michael Jones, whom we know and loved as Virgil, Vincent, Soul Train Jones and more.

Virgil passed peacefully at the hospital this morning and I ask that you pray for him and for his family.

May his memory be eternal!”

Virgil was dealing with health issues for the past couple of years. In 2022, he was diagnosed with dementia and had two minor strokes that year.

Tatanka recently revealed that Virgil was not doing good and suffered ‘several strokes’.

Virgil joined the World Wrestling Federation in the summer of 1987 as the bodyguard of ‘The Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase.

He lived that gimmick in and out of the ring – to convince the fans everywhere it was real – until he sort of broke free from his boss at the 1991 Royal Rumble PPV.

He then defeated DiBiase for the Million Dollar Championship at SummerSlam 1991, but lost it back to Ted a few months later. This was the only championship Virgil won in the WWF.

He left the Federation in 1994 and in 1996 joined Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling as Vincent, a member of the new World order.

RIP Virgil
