That’s simple: Because he put ECW on the map. Not once but actually TWICE! Regardless of what anyone thinks about it, it’s well known fact, that in order to get young talents over, you need Veterans who do the job for them. And what better way for ECW to put their talents over, than having former NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Wrestling Legend Terry Funk win the World Title Belt and then drop the belt to a young up and coming star?
Terry Funk is a 2 time ECW Heavyweight Champion (once in NWA Eastern Championship Wrestling and once a World Champion in Extreme Championship Wrestling).
He put over several younger Wrestlers in ECW but the ones he dropped the ECW Heavyweight Title to, were Shane Douglas (March 26, 1994) and Sabu (August 9, 1997).
