1. Hulk Hogan def. The Iron Sheik, for the WWF World Title
The Moment that would change the sport of Professional Wrestling FOREVER.
Regardless if you think this is right or wrong, plus all the Political Correctness BS aside, Americans legitimately HATED Iran and Iranians in 1984, because of Iran’s government taking 52 american hostages for 444 Days in 1979 – 1981, reffered to as the infamous ‘Iran Hostage Crisis’.
This (real life) heat was still very fresh and very real in January of 1984, when fellow Iranian The Iron Sheik, who just became WWF Champion by ending Bob Backlunds 6 Year Title Reign in December of 1983, faced Rocky III movie Star Hulk Hogan, who had just returned from the AWA.
In Madison Square Garden on January 23, 1984 to a huge pop, Hulk Hogan beat The Iron Sheik and became the WWF World Champion for the very first time. In the years to come the Hulkster would become the Greatest Name in Professional Wrestling, playing a major role in turning a local Territory thing into a national & international sensation.
With Pro-Wrestling History having seen many Patriots come and go, Hulk Hogan is undoubtably the greatest All American Hero of them all.
