2. Brock Lesnar vs. Tyson Fury/Cain Velasquez – WWE Championship Match
At this year’s WrestleMania, Vince McMahon wanted an opponent for Brock Lesnar with a Boxing/MMA background. He planned to have Cain Velasquez return at Royal Rumble to confront the WWE Champion in the Royal Rumble match, but plans changed after WWE received negative reactions from the fans on Social Media.
While WWE was planning Velasquez vs. Lesnar 2, they had Tyson Fury as another potential opponent planned for the WWE Champion. However, they didn’t use Fury because they didn’t want to risk the build-up in case Fury lost to Deontay Wilder.
Plans changed on the day of the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, and Drew McIntyre won the Royal Rumble match to get a shot against Lesnar’s Title at the Show Of Shows.
