6. Mustafa Ali Wins The WWE Championship

Mustafa Ali WWE Champion

There’s little doubt that Mustafa Ali’s meteoric transformation over the past two years from a high-flyer on 205 Live to WWE Championship contender on SmackDown Live has been one of the most compelling story — if not unlikely — in all of pro wrestling.

Billed at 5-foot-10 and 182 pounds with the move set of a traditional cruiserweight, it has been nothing short of refreshing to see how quickly the 32-year-old Ali has been elevated since his SmackDown debut in December and how serious (and legitimate) his character has been presented. Even in 2019, this has been a bit of a pleasant surprise.

Ali faced Daniel Bryan for the WWE Title earlier this year. Following the match, he was set to compete for the Title inside the Elimination Chamber, but unfortunately, he got injured. Kofi Kingston replaced him in the match. Perhaps he would be at Kofi’s place right now if not injured.

Ali teased a feud with Murphy a few days ago (as they’ve been facing each other in SmackDown dark matches as of late).

If WWE keeps building Ali’s character like they were, at the start of the year, he will be ready to win a major title by 2020. Vince McMahon was apparently in support of Ali’s talent. With WWE putting the strap on Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania, anything is possible now. We might get to see Ali as the WWE Champion next year.

Fun Fact: There were plans for Ali to be the WWE Champion heading into WWE Super ShowDown 2019 PPV in Saudi Arabia. However, Ali got injured and Kofi Kingston ended up receiving his push.
