• “If they’re claiming it’s not competition, they’re fooling themselves” – Former WWF Champion On WWE vs. AEW

On the latest episode of his weekly ‘Foley Is Pod’ podcast, Mick Foley talked about the current state of the professional wrestling business, and whether or not AEW is considered direct competition for WWE already or not.

Here’s how Mick phrased it:

“When people say ‘are you your WWE loyalist?’ I said, first and foremost, I’m for the boys. And when I say boys, I mean collectively, the men and the women I want what’s best for the talent and ultimately, I do believe that what’s best for the talent is best for the company.

So, I love WWE, but I love the fact that there’s a strong competition. If they’re claiming it’s not competition, they’re fooling themselves.”

After wrestling for many different promotions like World Championship Wrestling (WCW), World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW/later USWA Texas), Eastern Championship Wrestling / Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) & several others, he joined the World Wrestling Federation in 1996 and officially retired in 2000, despite coming out of retirement several times in 2004, 2006, 2007 & 2009.

During his WWF career, Foley wrestled as Mankind, Cactus Jack, Dude Love and as himself, but only won the WWF Championship as Mankind.
