In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, WWE President Nick Khan opened up about the company’s plans to bring a Premium Live Event (PLE) to India, revealing that the country is a top priority as WWE expands its global presence.
Khan confirmed that WWE is actively planning for the future, with India firmly in their sights. “That’s the goal, and we’re penciling out 2026 and 2027 now,” he said, indicating that a PLE in India could be just a couple of years away.
He also shared insights from early discussions with Netflix, WWE’s new streaming partner, noting that the streaming giant handed over a list of key markets they wanted to focus on. “At the top of that list was India,” Khan revealed, adding, “If it’s important to Netflix, assume it’s important to us.”
While Khan’s comments are promising, he cautioned that plans are still in the early stages. “Let’s wait and see,” he said, tempering expectations but leaving the door open for exciting developments.
This partnership, which will see WWE content begin streaming on Netflix in India starting April 1, 2025, is a significant factor in accelerating WWE’s plans for the region.
India has been on WWE’s radar for years, with the company hosting Live Events like the Superstar Spectacle in 2023, which featured John Cena in the main event. India has WWE’s largest fanbase in terms of audience size.
A WWE Official said the following about the Indian wrestling market back in 2017:
“India is one of our top international markets. In terms of audience size, it is our largest.
Something like 89 million Indians watched WrestleMania 33, 50 million Indians watch RAW and SmackDown every week (on Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 1 HD). Sunday Dhamaal has 25 million tuning in.
Those are numbers greater than any other international markets we have.”
