AJ Lee made her long-awaited WWE return earlier this month, stepping back into a ring for the first time in over a decade. She took in the crowd reaction and stuck with her classic skipping entrance.
However, WWE Hall of Famer Kevin Nash thinks she should have been presented differently. He wasn’t a fan of her entrance and said she should have gone straight for Becky Lynch instead of skipping her way to the ring.
Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Nash compared AJ’s comeback to Hulk Hogan’s transformation during the nWo storyline.
“If you go back in time, the nWo takes off, Hogan drops the leg, and then the next time you see Hulk, he’s still in the yellow and red. Does it work as well as the Hollywood, or do you go with the complete change because now you’ve got some f**king intrigue.”
He then pointed out that her return segment didn’t perform well.
“I’m only going by sh*t that works. When she came down to the ring, that was the lowest rated Netflix RAW that they’d had since they’d been on Netflix.
The reason she’s coming down is not to make a phoney sh*t wrestling angle – the reason she’s come down is because another woman is putting her hands on her husband and he can’t do anything about it.
If she would have just stormed down, and not even said a word, just went right to her and pummelled the sh*t out of her. Then if she wants to come out the next week and f**king skip, she can do what she wants.
The first time you see her though, it’s like, she just showed up because, ‘You know what man, I’m gonna go to the arena with you next week,’ ‘Nah babe…’ ‘No f**k that, I’m going.’ And then the sh*t goes down and she inserts herself.
So then you have her still kind of playing the ‘I’m semi crazy’ character, and you have Bayley kind of playing the semi crazy character also. So now we have two mentally unstable women on the same show. That’s good? There’s no mentally unstable men on the show.”
AJ Lee and CM Punk won their Mixed Tag Team Match against World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins and Women’s Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch at Wrestlepalooza.
