AEW President Tony Khan reportedly had plans to host the ROH Supercard of Honor PPV in Las Vegas during WrestleMania 41 weekend, potentially setting up a rare head-to-head clash with WWE. However, those plans have now been shelved, according to a report by WrestleZone.
Sources in Las Vegas revealed that AEW was exploring a venue near Fremont Street for the annual ROH event, which has traditionally been held during WrestleMania weekend. This would have marked the first time the Supercard was scheduled so close to WWE’s marquee event, which will dominate the weekend with two nights at Allegiant Stadium.
The reasons behind the decision to cancel the Vegas event remain unclear, but the challenges of competing directly with WrestleMania, a juggernaut in the wrestling world, likely played a role. WWE has long held a firm grip on WrestleMania weekend, drawing fans and media from around the world.
ROH Supercard of Honor has been a tradition since 2006, serving as a showcase for high-quality wrestling during a weekend when the industry is at its peak. Last year’s event, headlined by Mark Briscoe defeating Eddie Kingston to capture the ROH World Championship, was a major success.
While fans may be disappointed by the cancellation, AEW and ROH are likely to find another opportunity to spotlight their talent and maintain their strong legacy with the Supercard of Honor.
It should be noted that AEW’s annual Double or Nothing PPV might take place in a new city this year, once again due to WrestleMania 41.
Since its debut in 2019 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the pay-per-view has seen changes in venue due to various factors. In 2020 and 2021, the pandemic forced the event to relocate to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. It returned to Las Vegas for 2022 and 2023, moving to the larger T-Mobile Arena before going back to the MGM Grand in 2024.
According to Fightful Select, discussions within AEW have considered moving the 2025 event away from Las Vegas, partly due to WWE’s WrestleMania 41 PLE taking place there just a month earlier.
While AEW released its full pay-per-view schedule in advance last year, this might not happen again in 2025. Reportedly, WWE doing a Live Event on the same day and in the same city as AEW Worlds End 2024 PPV in December is influencing scheduling decisions.
