Ric Flair was introduced afterward, coming out to embrace everyone on stage. Flair praised Chicago as one of wrestling’s greatest cities, recalling how he lost the World Championship to Ricky Steamboat there and how the crowd’s energy has never faded. He said AEW was giving everyone a special opportunity to honor McMichael.
Flair, reflecting on their friendship, said he has many friends at age 76 but thanked everyone for celebrating Mongo. He added, “To be the man, you have to beat the man, and Mongo was more man than anyone I’ve ever known.”
Ric praised McMichael’s 6-year battle with ALS and recognized Misty for standing by his side and learning to be a nurse.
The crowd broke into chants for Mongo, and Flair closed by thanking AEW and Tony Khan for allowing him to pay tribute.
