All Elite Wrestling fired CM Punk on Saturday after an investigation was carried out into the fight between Punk and “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry backstage at AEW All In last Sunday.

AEW President Tony Khan opened Saturday’s episode of Collision in Chicago by addressing his decision to fire Punk.

He said that Punk endangered the lives of innocent people backstage, which is why he had to terminate his contract. He also stated that he felt endangered at a pro wrestling show for the first time ever because of Punk.

Sports Illustrated reports that Punk’s firing wasn’t solely based on his fight with Perry. He physically threatened Khan, which added a lot to the decision.

Unlike prior occasions, Khan was not able to effectively communicate or reason with Punk and eyewitness accounts supporting Khan’s claim further ended any chance that Punk would return to AEW.

The AEW legal team unanimously recommended the firing of Punk. WBD President David Zaslav was informed of the decision before AEW made the news public.

It was also noted that sources close to both sides expect a response from Punk, which holds the potential to be “explosive”.

Punk was fired with cause, which means he could take legal action against AEW over wrongful termination if he chooses to do so.
