• AEW Personality Still Has No Idea Why He Failed A WWE Drug Test

After many years as a mid-carder, things were finally going well for WCW/WWF Legend ‘Sir’ William Regal in 2008 after he defeated CM Punk in the finals to become the WWE King of the Ring.

The British legend was finally about to become a main eventer and maybe – who knows? – even a World Champion at some point, but less than a month after winning the big tournament, he failed a drug test and was suspended because of a wellness policy violation.

On a recent episode of his brand new weekly ‘Gentlemen Villain’ podcast, Regal addressed the situation and claimed that he still does not know what caused the positive test result back then.

Here’s what he had to say:

“I still don’t know what it was about, something showed up on my drug test, and again there’s been things said about me ‘oh he relapsed’ no, that’s not true at all. Absolutely false.

Nobody printed anything about what happened to me at that time because nobody knew.

It was a fraction of a slight something showed up on my drug test.

First of all, if you knew the amount of drugs I used to take, I don’t take a fraction of anything. I’m either going proper off or I’m not going in there.

It was a very sensitive time at that time because it wasn’t too long after a certain major incident (referring to the Chris Benoit tragedy). I think you can figure out what that was.”

After 22 years with The World Wrestling Federation / World Wrestling Entertainment, William Regal was released in January 2022 due to budget cuts.

He soon joined Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling in March and is currently managing the team of Bryan Danielson (fka Daniel Bryan), Jon Moxley (fka Dean Ambrose) and Wheeler Yuta, together known as The Blackpool Combat Club.
