Below are some top AEW news stories of the day.

• On the October 2 AEW Dynamite pre-show, Sammy Guevara suffered an injury during his match against Serpentico. While attempting a cutter off the ropes, Guevara did not get up, prompting AEW personnel to rush to the ring. He was later stretchered off.

Bray Alvarez provided an update on Wrestling Observer Radio, stating that although the situation initially seemed serious, Guevara was doing better in the trainers’ room afterward. However, he has entered concussion protocol. Dave Meltzer confirmed the belief that Guevara sustained a concussion during the match, saying, “The belief is he has a concussion.”

This injury comes at a challenging time for Guevara, who is currently one half of the ROH Tag Team Champions alongside Dustin Rhodes. His return timeline remains uncertain as he undergoes recovery.

• Bobby Lashley is set to make his first post-WWE appearance imminently, according to Fightful Select.

Shelton Benjamin has officially joined AEW, following MVP’s debut, further expanding the Hurt Syndicate. Last week, MVP delivered a promo alongside Prince Nana, sending a message to Swerve Strickland. This week, a backstage segment featured MVP and Nana again, with Benjamin making an appearance when MVP referenced his “complaint department.” Benjamin confronted Nana before walking off with MVP.

Adding to the excitement, Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that Bobby Lashley will also be joining AEW, completing the trio of MVP, Benjamin, and Lashley.

“We’re told that the three all nailed down their deals a number of weeks ago,” according to Sapp.

MVP will primarily manage both Benjamin and Lashley as the Hurt Syndicate establishes itself in AEW, setting the stage for major developments in the promotion.
