WWE released over 20 wrestlers last week. The company had been planning to make cuts in several departments following its sale to Endeavor.
A week before releasing talents, WWE made cuts to let go over 100 office employees as well.
Most of the talents that were released were inactive talents who weren’t being used on television, but the list also included some surprising names like Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali and Matt Riddle.
WWE also released Shelton Benjamin who wasn’t used much on television. Since his return to WWE in 2017, the only notable thing he did was be a part of The Hurt Business, which didn’t last very long either.
According to Fightful Select, Benjamin has had numerous AEW talents hoping that he would join the company in some capacity.
A couple of months ago, talent in the company were pushing for the former United States Champion to join AEW when there were incorrect rumours that his WWE contract was set to expire soon.
Benjamin will not be able to work for any other company until December as the 90 day non-compete clause in his WWE contract is currently in effect.
