• AEW Wrestlers Upset With What Kenny Omega Said In A Meeting Last Month

Prior to the August 24th episode of AEW Dynamite, a mandatory meeting was held for all the AEW wrestlers.

PWInsider reported the following about AEW EVP Kenny Omega’s comments at that meeting:

“Kenny Omega spoke and was the harshest towards the locker room in what we are told by some came off as ‘tough love’ and by others as really ‘heavy-handed’.

Some saw this as Omega trying to light a fire under the roster and others felt differently.”

Later on, Voices Of Wrestling claimed that Omega said the following during this meeting:

“I wouldn’t have even hired 80% of you.”

In an update, the Wrestling Observer noted the following about Omega’s line:

“He absolutely said the line. One version is that it was very clear when he said it he was being comedic, that he was looking at Will Ospreay when he said it, then said that he was just messing with Ospreay. Many laughed about it.

Others took it as serious and there were those upset about it. Several told us it was something totally misinterpreted and taken out of context but others didn’t like it.”

• Old School ECW Veteran Would Have Celebrated His Birthday

Old School ECW Veteran Paul Varelans celebrates his 53rd birthday today.

Before joining Paul Heyman’s Extreme Championship Wrestling, he used to be an MMA fighter who had 8 UFC fights between 1995 and 1996, 4 of which he won, while losing the other 4 fights.

Fresh out of the UFC, Varelans was brought into ECW in 1996 to put kayfabe shoot-fighter Taz over, but only agreed to do it after ECW diva Missy Hyatt offered to give him a BJ when the match is over.

Paul lost to Taz via submission in a worked “Shoot Fight”, but when Missy told him she doesn’t blow jobbers, he got angry and tore up the entire ECW locker room.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY & † REST IN PEACE
