Below are a couple of top AEW & WWE news stories of the day.

• Initially, it was rumored that Darby Allin would be in line for an AEW World Championship reign, but the long-term plan was for Jon Moxley to succeed Bryan Danielson as champion.

Danielson won the AEW World Title by defeating Swerve Strickland in a high-stakes career vs. title match, headlining the All In London 2024 PPV at Wembley Stadium.

Later, at WrestleDream, Moxley took the title from Danielson after beating Allin during Dynamite’s Grand Slam episode, effectively securing Allin’s title shot for himself.

According to the Wrestling Observer, while Allin was initially considered for a title run, AEW had different plans in mind. Danielson was initially reluctant to hold the title but was persuaded by AEW President Tony Khan, who saw Danielson’s win as the ideal climax for All In’s main event.

“The secret plan from months ago was always Danielson to Jon Moxley as a heel. The Swerve Strickland to Danielson and then to Moxley story was planned prior to Moxley winning the IWGP Title, but apparently the only people who were supposed to know were Tony Khan, Moxley, Danielson and Allin.”

Danielson helped determine the title transition timing, which wasn’t fixed until he suggested WrestleDream at Tacoma Dome, and the storyline shift to Moxley as a heel was part of Moxley’s own vision for his new version of the Blackpool Combat Club.
