• ON THIS DAY IN WWF HISTORY (August 12, 1981) – Bruno Sammartino Retires

On this day in 1981, Vince McMahon Sr.’s World Wrestling Federation aired an interview with former WWWF World Heavyweight Champion Bruno Sammartino, in which he announced his retirement.

The retirement wouldn’t last long, as he returned to the WWF, that was now owned by Vince McMahon Jr., in 1984 as a commentator, but also to wrestle a couple of matches every now and then, thus turning into a semi-retired part-timer.

• Arn Anderson On If Daniel Bryan’s WWE Release In 2010 Was Real

WWE Hall Of Famer and AEW Head Coach Arn Anderson discussed Daniel Bryan being fired from WWE in 2010 on the latest episode of the ARN podcast.

He went in detail and discussed if it was a work or a real thing.

Below is what Arn said:

“I don’t think this was something that was planned from the beginning. I think he did get fired. 100% got fired but I think the backlash from the audience maybe caused him to rethink it and put it back together because Daniel would have never booked himself, if this was going to be just some phantom angle, he would not have booked himself for those other promoters because that is where his beginnings were.

He was loyal to the indies. He was loyal to those promoters. He would not have booked himself with those companies knowing that he was going to cancel later. It doesn’t sound right to me. He was booking his living going forward figuring it was over for him in WWE. I think that the backlash caused him to rethink this and they put this angle together. They sat on it pretty good. So it was a surprise for the most part.”
