Former RAW Tag Team Champions The Authors Of Pain were released from WWE in late 2020.

The company attempted to push them many times, but luck wasn’t on their side as injuries kept hurting their momentum again and again.

Rezar tore his triceps and had to be written off television due to which Akam was taken off television too. A couple of months after that, WWE released them.

Fightful Select reported earlier this year that WWE Hall of Famer Paul Ellering had been negotiating a deal with WWE for them.

In an update from Fightful, it was reported that AOP have actually been under contract with WWE since 2022, according to some sources. However, it hasn’t been confirmed by WWE.

They were apparently signed before WWE Executive Chairman Vince McMahon returned to power because his return put a halt on all signings besides new recruits.

It was also noted that the internal travel list had AOP on the schedule back in May.

PWInsider reports that there has been a lot of talk over the last week about AOP returning to television with Ellering, which would likely happen on NXT. There was talk at this week’s NXT about the duo possibly returning to action next month.
