All Elite Wrestling fired CM Punk last week after an investigation was carried out into the fight between Punk and “Jungle Boy” Jack Perry backstage at AEW All In last month.

AEW President Tony Khan opened last Saturday’s episode of Collision in Chicago by addressing his decision to fire Punk.

He said that Punk endangered the lives of innocent people backstage, which is why he had to terminate his contract. He also stated that he felt endangered at a pro wrestling show for the first time ever because of Punk.

The last year wasn’t easy for AEW as there was a lot of negativity backstage following the brawl between Punk and The Elite at All Out 2022. It continued to grow after Punk’s return earlier this summer.

A day after Punk’s firing, AEW held the All Out pay-per-view in Chicago, which was praised by a lot of fans. It was seen as the talent trying to show that there was a new beginning in AEW.

The Wrestling Observer reports that many people in AEW talked about the backstage atmosphere following Punk’s firing as a dark cloud being lifted over their heads. They considered last weekend’s shows a lot of fun as well.
