Below are some top AEW news stories of the day.
• Former AEW Trios and TNT Champion Killswitch is facing uncertainty regarding his in-ring return after collapsing from pneumonia.
Killswitch, who has been working under Christian Cage’s guidance, was hospitalized on September 27 after his blood oxygen levels dropped below 80 percent.
He was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs, and doctors noted that he was just days away from permanent lung damage.
Sean Ross Sapp provided an update on Fightful Select’s Q&A podcast, reporting,
“He’s on oxygen. He’s back home. Was told to expect recovery over a month. His in-ring return remains unclear although the doctors he has spoken to say he should be able to return to the ring.”
Killswitch last competed at AEW All In 2024, and while his recovery will take time, fans are hopeful for his full return to the ring.

• Mercedes Moné’s signing with AEW has been a significant moment for the company, but it has also sparked controversy.
While Moné has accomplished a lot since joining, her signing has been criticized as one of the biggest financial miscalculations in wrestling history.
On his 83 Weeks podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff pointed out that Moné’s arrival in AEW did not result in the expected success.
He stated, “I mean, I think Mercedes has got to be one of the biggest financial miscalculations, in terms of talent deals, in the history of professional wrestling. The numbers have crashed since she showed up. Her stock has gone so far down, and she was a big sign. That potentially could have been a big deal, and it was the opposite.”
Despite the criticisms, Moné, believed to be one of the highest-paid women in wrestling, has made it clear she feels she has earned her status.
The long-term impact of her signing on AEW remains to be seen.
